Production Diary

Friday 12th September
Illy & Andrew met Phil at Herne Bay Little
Theatre, and was quickly joined by Beth &
Luke.  Together they got everything unloaded
and Andrew & Beth started to dress the set.
It was not long before 'Pensioners Mean
Prizes' had a standing set.  The rest of the
cast arrived bang on time and helped jolly
Andrew along whilst he finished off setting up.
Meanwhile Beth rehearsed Illy and Luke in the
green room.  Melissa's make up skills where
called in to help make Luke up, whilst Illy aged
herself 40 years!  Andrew helped a little, with
some foul smelling Latex Solution. Finally all
was ready and shooting started, recording

the extras who provided the audience, and
clapped & laughed their hearts out.  With
all their stuff recorded they were released
and filming concentrated on Luke and Illy,
with Tom playing the PA for the show.
Filming wrapped at 10.40pm giving the
team twenty minutes to exit the Theatre.

Saturday 20th September
Back at the Little Theatre the team were joined by
Lauren & Tim for the first time. Tim handled
sound, whilst Tom was the PA - for real this time!
David was made up by Illy and shot his first
scene as 'Charlie'.  Watching 'Pensioners Mean
Prizes' on the security screens.  This was
followed by Charlie's 'Hamlet' scene. While
Andrew packed up, Beth rehearsed Lauren, Illy,
Tom & David on some upcoming scenes.

Sunday 4th October
A couple of firsts as the team arrived at St Mary's
Retreat Hall for the first time and saw Pete, David
and Lauren on set together for he first time.
Andrew set up the height chart and they filmed
the 'Usual Suspects' line up scene.
Anne Cattor and the members of WARA started
to arrive, along with the rest of the cast and crew
for the first dance rehearsal. Everyone was
nervous as most people hadn't met before!

Andrew and Beth introduced everyone and told
everyone what the film was about and then handed
over to Sophie who started to choreograph the
dance scene.  With a couple of breaks for tea
most of the first section of the disco number was
learnt by 9pm.  Everyone woke up very sore the
next day!

Saturday 11th October
Sophie again led a second rehearsal, finishing off
the Disco number and then concentrating on the
Waltz and the tunnel.  Sadly three WARA's had
to drop out - thank you for giving it a go!  The rest
soldiered on and the dance was finished, all ready
for filming the following Sunday.  Andrew
succeeded in bruising his right buttock, in a
spectacular fall, managing to save the camera,
whilst shooting some test footage!  Andrew and
Beth were over the moon at what Sophie had
achieved and somewhat overwhelmed at what
they'd created! After saying goodbye to everyone,
Beth and Andrew filmed Illy being captured by
Joe & Tom P!  Unfortunately they left the HM
Prison sign on the church car park, so we're
not sure what the congregation made of it the
next day!

Friday 17th October
Filming proper begins!  Everyone arrives early at
Pete's flat and filming starts with Lauren & Pete
watching TV.  David gets changed and walks to
work in his uniforms.  He then puts on his
Clown make up and they move off to the zebra
crossing to film Illy hitting Pete!  David gets lots
of strange looks!  Macari's Coffee Shop in Herne
Bay next and David in full clown get up chases
Illy on her scooter!  Emma arrives and the

'old team' of Beth, Emma and Andrew are back
together again and at full strength!  It's then off
to the Clock Tower to film David, Pete &
Lauren watch Rose from behind a paper and
then back to Andrew & Illy's house to film the
chess scene in their garden and then the
'Pop Corn' scene  - the opening shot of the
Doll's House and David - eight takes later it's
in the can and everyone collapses and heads
home.  Only everyone's up early to do it all
again the next day!

Saturday 18th October
Everyone meets early at Westgate Towers
car park, Canterbury and piles into different
cars to take the trip out to the tunnel
location, just outside Canterbury.
Unfortunately not everyone can fit in and
Beth, Tom & Emma have a nice country
stroll!  Getting to the tunnels, the chase
begins as Pete runs for his life from Tom R,
Jodie & Tim (the Thugs!) and Joe & Tom P
(the Police!).  It's Roger's first outting on
sound and Emma is the AD.  Although
cold, it's a great start!  Next everyone's off
to Herne Bay, with Beth & Andrew dropping
money off to the Catering Team (Ashley!) and
then picking up Pete's friend Joanna.  Beth
panics when Pete's says, "There she is",
and sees a large chav, with a bicycle.

Thinking, how's she gonna fit a bike in, she's
relieved to discover that it's not her!  Joanna
jumps in and it's off to May Lodge Club to
film the Trio being release from the station
and facing the media (Josh, Rob & Joanna) -
Back to the studio!  Breaking for lunch at the
club they head to the dead end to film Illy's
come upance and then off to the sea front to
film the scooter chase.  Meeting Andrew's
Dad with two scooters!  The team struggle
through abuse from the dross of Herne Bay
and get it all in the can and are relieved to
head to Macari's to film Beth & Andrew
having coffee, with the chase rushing past
them.  Beth cracks up, as a kid in the
restaurant bursts out laughing at the chase
behind them!  Finally in the fading light
Andrew struggles to light the final scene of
the day until a friendly club allows him to
plug his lights in!  Phew!  Everyone heads
off and Beth, Andrew & Illy check out the
footage - it's looking good!

Sunday 19th October
Yes, the final day, and boy are we
knackered!  The team start by shooting all
the Museum scenes and the run into and
out of the Museum.  This sees Illy and the
Trio in sexy black outfits!  Andy O arrives
and realises what he's let himself in for!  The
team get all the shots in the can, just as
WARA start arriving for the dance routine.
Sadly Sophie can't make it due to work
commitments, but Beth's made a record

of all the moves!  With a quick break for
lunch, with Rob & Josh, serving tea -
(thanks guys!), the filming starts on the
Waltz sections of the dance sequence.
Mark & Linda have arrived and Linda starts
to draw everyone in.  The two Andy's go
hand held to get some close up shots and
Beth has a ball directing all the action and
getting some great performances from
everyone.  Running about 30 minutes behind
schedule the team move onto the Disco
routine!  Two cameras and PA's, we shoot
simultaneous takes of the routine from six
different angles - Beth and Andrew's brains
go into meltdown, as they watch the time
slowly disappearing.  A break for dinner as
Ashley, Ryan & Luke arrive with a mountian

of food.  Over dinner Andrew and Beth
discuss what shots to drop to allow them to
get the whole scene in the can by 9pm.
Crane & Dolly moves come next, before
they move onto the pointy fingers sweep up
& down the line and finally the tunnel
sequences, with Roger pushing Andy O on a
trolly through the tunnel!  Although they are
running over time, no one complains!  What
stars!  Beth asks for a final few shots of the
disco routine - with Andy K going hand held
and Andy O on the Roger Dolly!  Finally it's

Linda and Mark on the disco, but Mark can't
find the pause button!!  At 9.35pm Beth
finally says, "Cut and that's a Wrap!" , and a
big cheer goes up!  We've done it!  What an
amazing cast and crew.  Beth & Andrew
hand out thank you presents and everyone
heads home, with a few remaining for the
party.  But we're all so tired that we just
collapse!  But we did it!  Hurrah!

'Nouse' was premiered on Sunday 7th December at Herne Bay Little Theatre.

It received a "Highly Commended" award at the Kent Film Festival in 2009 and "Two Stars" at the British International Film Festival in 2009.
